What started as a self-empowering blog about being more than just a mother, turned into multiple businesses and a brand I’m proud to represent.
I’m Steffie Fourie,
and this is my story:
In 2013, my oldest son was just a few months old and I was going through a bit of an identity crisis. Everyone expected of me to stop and drop everything, to focus on motherhood. I was an ambitious, newly-wed, 23-year old and had just opened my Ballroom & Latin dance studio when I found out I was pregnant.
I was determined to be a do-it-all mom, so he went where I went. No maternity leave and I was back to teaching dancing on day five. For our family of three, it worked, for everyone around us – not so much.
Out of complete frustration I started my first blog, which was pretty much a rant about how I was a woman before I was a mother, I was a wife, a business woman, a friend, a daughter, all of which needed my attention. I was not JUST a mother. I was still me, I was a Dirty Dancing Mama! (That was the name of the original blog & website.)
Years went by, we welcomed another son, got divorced and my journey began as a single mother. I was blessed not to walk this road alone for very long before a brave man decided to become part of our family. We had a little girl to complete our family of five.
Life isn’t without curve-balls and wow did we get our fair share. I started homeschooling my oldest son, right before we finally got his Tourette’s Syndrome diagnosis. This changed our life, our mind-set and our lifestyle. Then Covid-19 hit and I had to close my dance studio after almost a decade.
Which brings us to NOW.
I am a homeschooling mother of three. I have a 9-year old, 6-year old and 3-year old.
I’ve grown as a mother, a woman and a business owner. I’ve always been entrepreneurial and made sure I never had to rely on just one stream of income. Like me, those side-hustles grew and have now became focused businesses.
Everything in our life revolves around learning, dancing, fun and dirt! Oh, so much dirt hahaha!
It was time for a rebrand…
